I am a new and would like to be trained to referee games. How do I do that?
We suggest you contact either WBOA (WI Basketball Officials Association) or LOA (Lakeland Officials Association) and let them know of your interest. They will get you the necessary training, assign a mentor, and work to get you games to build experience.
I am a veteran offical who recently moved to the area or wants to get back after a brief layoff. How shall I proceed?

When are the games typically played?
The WYBL plays our games on Sunday’s throughout the season. Our first date is November 3rd and we go through our year end tournament dates of March 9th. There are three instances where we play on Saturday’s as well. Sat, December 14th (need to get more games in before the Xmas holiday’s, the day before the Super Bowl, and the year end tournament.
What locations do you use? Can I be assigned to one close to my house?
We use approximately 5-7 large facilities each week for our games. We try to geographically spread them out to minimize travel, but that isn’t always possible. Your game assigner is given locations and they assign where they see fit.
How does the WYBL assign Referees for games?
The WYBl uses about 7 assigners for the numerous games each Sunday. Each assigner is tasked with filling their necessary allotment of games. For newer referees, it is common for the WYBL to provide your name to a few assigners so you may start to fill your game schedule.
How many games can I referee each session?
That is up to the assigner, but we recommend assigning in blocks of 3-5 games as your quality of work needs to stay consistent Games start at 8am and usually the last games tip off at 6pm.
What is the pay for basketball referees?
The WYBL sets $30 per game as the standard. You will be paid on the spot for each game officiated.
