and\ninternational research brings a unique perspective to Caribbean Earth sciences. She is a\nspecialist on Caribbean microscopic fossils. Raised in Trinidad and Tobago, she strongly\nadvocates for public education about our Caribbean scientific heritage. \u201cWe, the\nCaribbean, have contributed significantly to the science of micropalaeontology [noun:\/\/\nthe study of microscopic fossils], largely between the 1920s till the 1970s and especially\nin Trinidad and Tobago. That is something to be shared, celebrated, and should be\ncontinuously supported and developed by local institutions and industries.\u201d \u2013 Dr.\nSamsoondar 19th March 2026\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a373426 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"a373426\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6e8dbf5 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6e8dbf5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDr. Samsoondar holds a PhD in Petroleum Geoscience, is a scholarship recipient from\nthe University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago, for her academic research there\n(2017-2020), was awarded international funding from the Kugler-Werdenberg Stiftung,\nBasel, Switzerland, and the Swiss National Science Foundation for conducting\nCaribbean focused research there (2022-2024), and was given a seal of excellence by the\nEuropean Horizon following evaluation by an international panel of independent experts\n(2025). Though focused in Switzerland, her international research also explored\nCaribbean natural history collections at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History,\nWashington, USA, Natural History Museum, London, the Energy Institute, London, The\nGeological Society of London, the 9th International School on Foraminifera, Urbino, Italy,\nand several institutions in Trinidad and Tobago.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-51d97b6 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" at the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago (2025-2026) and is author to a scientific book on Trinidad\u2019s geology, academic research papers, and geological magazine articles. Her experience spans academic research, museum curation, and applied geoscience within the energy sector.
